Vienna Excursion 2022
From August 1st to 4th, 2022, we had an excursion to Vienna.
This event, the first in two years due to the covid-19 pandemic, allowed us to interact with each other across cohorts and gain a variety of great experiences.
We participated in three different themed city tours with professional guides and learned about the history and present-day Vienna from a variety of perspectives.
We also joined a tour of the Vienna office of the United Nations and participated in a short lecture and Q&A session with the UNHCR (the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). UNHCR aims to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee. With this valuable opportunity, we were able to gain an in-depth understanding of the activities of the international organization.
We also visited the Weltmuseum Wien, known as one of the world’s leading anthropological museums. SDAC is an interdisciplinary master’s program, where cultural and social anthropology and ethnology are the academic fields of study. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to visit this museum that offers many insights into the history and development of anthropology as well as the ethics of museums since our research subject is focused on human culture(s).
In addition, we enjoyed the wonderful city of Vienna, stopping at a cafe with more than 200 years of history or another museum, depending on their interests.
On the 4th and 5th, some of us continued traveling to the Berchtesgaden National Park. This part was a self-funded tour to experience the beauty of the Alps.
There was much to learn from the programs offered during the excursion, and experiencing them together contributed to the development of the SDAC team spirit!
