Amsterdam Excursion 2023
From July 24th to 29th, the students at SDAC embarked on an enlightening excursion in Amsterdam, visiting several culturally and historically significant sites.
Tropenmuseum: Cultural Richness
We visited the Tropenmuseum, where we explored diverse exhibits showcasing global cultures. Tropenmuseum is a former colonial museum, which currently serves as an ethnographic museum. Interactive displays on the Dutch colonial past sparked discussions on heritage and identity.
Framer Framed: Art with a Message
Another stop at the excursion was Framer Framed, a platform for the contemporary art, visual culture, and critical theory. We engaged with contemporary art addressing social issues like migration and diaspora, highlighting art’s role in societal change.
The Black Archive: Unveiling Histories
At The Black Archive, we had inspiring conversations about the documents and artifacts chronicling the histories of Black individuals in the Netherlands. We got to know the importance of diverse historical narratives, especially those that are often underexposed elsewhere.
DOEN Foundation: Fostering Social Inclusivity
Another amazing experience was a workshop at the DOEN Foundation, where we brainstormed social innovation projects, linking theoretical knowledge with practical solutions to foster the commitment to a green, socially inclusive and a creative society.
This impactful excursion provided SDAC students with valuable insights into culture, history, and social responsibility, inspiring them to become proactive global citizens.
