Our team members working on “Ethics, Morality and Religion” explore the intricate relationships between ethical and moral principles and religious traditions, focusing on how these elements mutually shape human behavior and societal norms within a global context. Using an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates history, anthropology, sociology, and gender studies, we examine the evolving dynamics of Ethics and Religion from the nineteenth century to the present.
Key areas of investigation for our group include ethics and morality, ritual practices, the intersection of gender, sexuality, and religion (with a particular focus on Islam), Muslim pilgrimage and mobility, consumption in Muslim contexts, global religious transformations, and the transformation of religious practices through digitalization. We emphasize the importance of cultural and historical contexts, viewing religion as a dynamic and adaptive force that both reflects and influences societal and global changes.
